It’s really a blessing and a curse when you know someone for so long and you get to photograph their engagement and wedding. It’s a lot of stress because you know them and they’ll tell you straight just how bad you suck and put a stop to something wild you want to try out. Thank goodness they didn’t. They may have thought it but they smiled and kept rolling with the punches.

I’ve known Shella ever since elementary school. I was friends with her sister Sancha and spent most of my summers sleeping over their house. We have so many great memories. Thank you to you and your family for taking such good care of me growing up. As I’m photographing you and Gerald I just know you’ll be happy always. Thank you for trusting me and hope you like your photos..Love you guys!

Beachfront Oasis Estate

I had a great opportunity to photograph the Beachfront Oasis Estate on Oahu. It’s the perfect location for your wedding or event. The wonderful Karine France-Matsumoto of Seasons of Life Wedding and Event Planning, LLC invited me and I’m am so grateful. She did a wonderful job coordinating a mock wedding, party, and fashion show all held at the Estate. When I walked onto the property I could not believe Karine along with Shilhi Seibel of Passion Roots created the perfect medley of colors and textures. It was the perfect setting to place a photographer. Luckily there were a few of us there to photograph every little detail.

UFC Lightweight Champion: BJ “The Prodigy” Penn

I got a call one day a few months ago from James Sereno of Kinetic Films asking if I would be available to do stills for BJ Penn’s — 90 Days DVD signing. Uh, let me think..HELL YA! Alright, I love BJ Penn. James and everyone else can attest to that but after hanging with him a little and observing the way he treats his fans, BJ Penn is no doubt the best. AND he’s hilarious. The comments he makes cracks me up like this link (it’s around :32).Get his DVD and sign up for BJPENN.COM. He uploads videos daily. Funny stuff..guarans! Oh and follow him on Twitter here.

When he signed DVD’s at the Pearl City Best Buy the line was so long I think it went over by about three hours. We were trying to limit people to just the DVD and one other item but people kept bringing tons of stuff. We would tell them only the DVD and they’d agree. Right when they walked up to BJ they would bust out their 800 items and BJ Penn signed them all. I wanted to do the rear naked choke on some peeps…JUST KIDDING! BJ was really there for his fans that day. He was genuine and appreciated everyone that came to see him. That was awesome and now I tell everyone I know that BJ Penn is the coolest!

BJ Penn is getting ready to fight Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez on Saturday, December 12th. You can still buy travel packages to go see it live on the BJPENN.COM website. If you can’t make that be sure to pay-per-view it and watch our local boy kick some ass..yeah ya! Thanks BJ for letting me document your event and we’ll be rooting for you on the 12th. I think my husband loves you more than me..haha!

I’ve known Gary since I was in high school. His family owns Chun Wah Kam Noodle Factory and they gave me my first job. Thanks to them I was able to pay for my proms and everything else during high school. I loved working there. It was a bunch of friends working together and the perk was eating whatever we wanted. What else could a high schooler ask for? Ever ate a manapua and thought “hey, wouldn’t it be awesome if they had a sweet potato manapua?” Well, they got ‘em. What about a pizza one? Yup, they got that. What about a plate lunch that has enough to feed a small village…check! Oh, more into home cooked meals? Well they have noodles you can buy by the pound so you can make your own fried noodles. They’re pretty awesome but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you because you probably already know. I mean how could you not?? They’ve been around since 1941. They have locations in Kalihi, Waimalu and Kapolei. Even though I’m no longer with Chun Wah Kam I’m glad to be friends with Gary and try to keep in touch as much as I can. It’s hard though..Chun Wah Kam is open every day of the year…so order that pan of noodles for your next holiday:) Thanks Gary and Sharon for a quick session with your family on the beach. Now, let’s get going on that idea of yours.

Sweet Treats |Hawaii Photographer|

I blogged Lunching With The Ladies a few days ago and mentioned how spoiled I was with Angie. Angie produced a short film called “Lychee Thieves“ She asked both my husband and myself to be a part of it and it played at this year’s Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF). This past weekend Lychee Thieves went to Hilo to be shown at the Palace Theatre. Angie went to Hilo and brought back Mika Mints from Big Island Candies and Strawberry Mochi from Two Ladies Kitchen. We loooove those treats! Angie and I had a great opportunity to work on a few movies in Hilo. First, we did Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and then we did The Tempest. We love Hilo and yes, we claim it’s our hood:) Thanks Ang for running around Hilo to bring our FAVES back so our family could devour it in mere seconds..lol

These bad boys are so ono.

I got so excited about Mika Mints I could only think of throwing them in the air. Throwing things in the air = happy, happy, joy, joy!

He’s all about the Strawberry Mochi and I don’t blame him one bit.

When you have mochi on your mind you don’t care if your diaper is hanging low or your shorts are just about to come off.

The reason why the camera is always good to have around. I think I’ll keep this one for his future girlfriend..tee-hee!

Every year I get nervous around Halloween time. The pressure of dressing up and what you’re going to dress the children as each year gives me an anxiety attack. It really comes down to the moola. I dont’ want to spend it. All the costumes that the kids wanted were upwards of $20 each. I know that’s not a lot but if they could use it for the rest of the year it wouldn’t be so bad…but one night. I have a hard time with that especially because they’re still younger. I know everyone reading this thinks I’m a mean mommy. I think so too..lol So, we’re all good. Just kidding! Whatever you write CAN be used against you huh? Anyway, I was prepping my boys for not getting a costume this year. Luckily my sister keeps all her costumes and offered to have the boys borrow from her son’s closet. I was all for it and happy that my boys would have something to wear.

Of course the story gets better and I’m just so happy for Old Navy. I’m not sure if they do it every year but they slashed all their Halloween items to $2 each. I had to ask the sales guy to make sure EVERYTHING Halloween was $2. Right when he said “yes” a frenzy started inside me and I snatched what I could. Logan and Mason would be happy to be a chicken and a dragon..right??? I know it’s covered from head to toe and we’re on a tropical island of average 80 degree weather but for $2 they better LOVE IT like how I LOVE IT ..lol

I got home and could not wait to show the kids their costumes. Logan my oldest wasn’t too happy because his heart was set on the Spiderman costume Aunty Nicole promised him. But smart mommy was ready for the protest. We had just watched “Where the Wild Things Are” and I told him it was a costume from that movie. Took him a little bit to take the bait but he did and LOOOVED his costume. Phew! Mason is only two so he would’ve loved anything I brought home. The only danger is we hung out at my sister’s house in Kalihi and Mase was was being eyed up by all the pinoys..ha!

Hope you enjoyed your Halloween as much as our family did. Soon it’ll be Thanksgiving..the Christmas…Yikes!

Lunching with the ladies

I’m so lucky or is the word spoiled? My awesome friend and boss took us ladies out to a fabulous lunch at Mariposa. I’ve been there three or four times and everytime it’s with Angie. I really love that place. The atmosphere is perfect for lunch and the food is delicious. The popovers alone are worth the trip. I wish I got more photos but we were chatting and laughing and the camera just didn’t make it out as much as I would’ve liked. Mainly because I was so hungry.

Heading out of Mariposa. Every time I see this when I’m on the escalator I can’t help but smile. It’s beautiful. Butterflies hanging down from the roof. Sometimes it’s silver or all different colors. I’m smiling thinking of it.

And what else are a bunch of gals going to do at Ala Moana? Yup, head over to Victoria Secret. I bet every woman on Oahu will get a gift from there for Christmas. I’m not going to complain.

I loooove Victoria Secret. I’m inspired. I would love to do a photo shoot for them. I can dream can’t I. C’mon this doesn’t make your imagination go wild?…photographer or not;)

Queen of Hawaii

I got a call from my friend, Marky, who is a fabulous makeup artist. He said he had a client who wanted to take pictures. So, nonchalantly I say “ok”. I had no idea what we were about to do was going to blow my mind.

Tiana Ann Dersen was crowned Queen of Hawaii 2008. She needed us to help her shoot the cover for the pageant program. Of course I’m trying to act cool but really I’m doing the Steve Urkel dance inside (if you need a refresher on that go here.) Tiana was getting dolled up by Marky and my husband and I were setting up the lights and getting the studio ready. I’m seeing everything transform and I’m feeling giddy but trying to keep it together.

I just got the program from the pageant that was held this past Saturday and I can’t help but be proud. She looks great on the cover and her two page spread is just flawless! It helps that Tiana is a graphic designer and has her own company called Glass Slipper Productions. Very fitting name for her company dont’cha think? She also used a few photos for the table numbers. It looked AH-MA-ZING!

Congratulations Tiana for a fabulous job as the Queen of Hawaii 2008! You did so much during your reign and I know you’ll continue giving back. Your cover ROCKED and I’m not biased at all! Ok, just a little but I’m just sayin’

This post is the result of a few photographer friends hanging out at Starbucks. We all used our resources and in a few days we were on location getting ready to shoot Miss Sarah. We all had a great time. Lots of laughs and a lot of bumping each other in true paparazzi fashion. This is one reason to make friends with other photographers. You get to learn and get better. We rocked it! Check it out.

A huge thank you to Amos Kotomori for actually showing up and helping us. Then Wowing us with Sarah’s hair/MU. Then beyond that showing us how we should be communicating with our models. Because of you Sarah mysteriously gets a meeting with the previously booked Premier Model Agency and signs with them. Sarah is now going to be everywhere. We just know she’ll do well. Hey, I hope she gets her big break. I’m all about name dropping to help my career..HOLLA!

Mahalo to my friends and fellow photographers, Alisa, Athena, & Pinky! Fantastic 4! Do people hire a 4pk of photographers? Well they should. We work well togehter. We have to meet up at Chili’s so we can conjure up our next shoot. Can’t wait ladies!!!
