In photography I’m lucky to know other photographers that are willing to share, inspire and help to push me along when sometimes you don’t want to pick up the camera.  I’m part of a little photography group that have decided to do a monthly photography challenge.  I’m sure you guessed this month is WATER.

It’s already gotten me to blog my first blog post since October 2011. Check the blog post right before this.  Yup, I was major slackin’ but thanks to this group I have to at least blog every month.  Here’s what I’ve decided to post as my water picture.  Now head over to check out Karma Hill’s blog here.  But don’t stop there.  Continue on to the link she posted and you’ll get the see the whole groups water interpretation.  Don’t be shy..drop us some love!

After about a month of waiting my Mamiya afd finally arrived…can I get a whoop whoop??  Immediately put a roll in (took a little while because I thought I didn’t need to read a manual) and started shooting.  Hey seemed easy peasy enough.  Here’s what I observed.

1.  It’s a boss of a camera.  Highly recommend a strap.  Got confused trying to multi-task the light meter, Vinny (what I’ve decided to name my camera), and focus and whatever else a photog needs to do when take a photo.

2.  I suck at light metering.  All of these photos were waaaay too bright.  I wish the FIND workshop on Maui that I’m attending was tomorrow instead of November.  I totally need Jonathan Canlas to drop his knowledge on me.

3.  My husband doesn’t care if I need 20 years to manual focus before I snap his picture.  He will not stop for any shots I want to take.  Love you too babe

4. Even though I suck at it I’ll still continue to shoot it until Vinny isn’t embarrassed to be seen with me.

5.  My non-modeling husband develops my B&W and is teaching me so I can get off his back when I inquire if my film is ready.

6.  Scanning at home but wow! Saves you money but takes a whole lotta time..

7. Duuude, you really need to know what you’re doing.  Take it from me.  Here’s what happens when you think you’ve got the right stuff..LOL (Over exposure and more time in PS trying to fix it.  One of the main reasons is to spend less time in front of the computer)

My children are a couple of lucky kids.  My eldest son started kindergarten with his cousin.  Made his first day jitters and tears pretty much go away by the time I walked to the gate.  My youngest son has a cousin 6 days older than him.  So, those two will grow up together and loving and annoying eachother.  But that’s what pals do   And it lets us mommies hang out while the children hang out and entertain.  Here’s a few hours of togetherness..just because we can  

I’m a very lucky girl.  I have a friend who owns horses on a ranch.  My friend let me come and take pictures for a shoot.  Here are some just for fun during down time.  Mahalo, Renee for letting us come on such short notice.

My uncle had his birthday and we celebrated at P.F. Chang’s in the Hokua Building. We weren’t really sure what to expect.  We just thought Chinese food.  It is but it’s so good.  We got so much food that my uncle got a doggie bag so big he probably will have meals for at least a couple of days.   I’m trying to think of all the birthdays and holidays that are coming up so I can make the hubby take me   Don’t worry..we’ll definitely be back and there definitely will be a part two to this P.F. Chang obsession.

Happy Birthday Uncle!Haha! I’m cracking up because I made my uncle take a picture even before he could get his shoes on.  Love it! Take a picture..it’ll last longer

The best part was the service.  We must’ve looked dazed walking in there because the manager Christi Skidmore had a big smile when we walked in.  She asked if this was our first time (I’m sure it was pretty obvious to her because our jaws were on the ground) and got us a table.  She hooked us up with lettuce wraps and a dessert.  How nice is she?  Love her!  Ya, the lettuce wraps didn’t stand a chance of making it home.  All pau.  Super ono!  Mahalo, Christi for making us crave it all day, every day..haha!

And Christi also gave uncle a special birthday dessert on the left and we ordered the banana spring rolls.  The banana spring rolls are crazy good! I mean I seriously used the spring rolls to wipe the plate clean.  If you go there and don’t eat this for dessert you should be ashamed of yourself.  It should actually be an automatic thing.  Eat there and they automatically serve this at the end.  Until next time banana spring rolls…

Our friend Athena moved away and needed her car shipped overseas.  We were ready to bring her car over to Matson but realized there was too much gas so…that’s where our adventure begins..

My SIL Alisa called her big bro Matt to see if we could siphon some gas out of the tank.  As you can see from Matt’s look he already knows newer cars prevent siphoning BUT it doesn’t prevent us from trying.

We realize we need to just drive to get the gas level to where we want it to be so, Haleiwa it is..

We end up at  Paalaa Kai.

Just have to share that on this day my son decided to wear daddy’s slippers.  We were in such a rush that I didn’t realize it.  Another thing to make this day memorable.

Paalaa Kai is known for their fried  chicken and baked goods.  And let me tell ya..the chicken is one of THE BEST I’ve ever tasted!.  And their doughnuts are yummers too!  Definitely going back.

Alright, everybody in??  Smelling the chicken and doughnuts is torture for the kids.  But we’ll drive to papa’s house to share.

After we eat we have to go outside and workout a little.We still have a lot of driving to do and we head into town.

Luckily, the next day we drop off the car and soon Athena will have her.  Thanks, Athena for an awesome adventure!

Treated my boys to lunch and dragged them to the Hawaii Fashion Expo.  Just another day documented.My Mase had a huge plate of ono fried rice next to him and his nose stayed glued to the iphone.  Darn you Angry Birds **fist in air**

I was stopped by a guy who wanted to take a picture of my film camera.  So, I returned the favor and took a picture of his.  I think that’s a great idea.  So, if you’re carrying a film camera and I see you please stop and take a moment to pose for a picture.  Mahalo in advance.I stopped Andy South at the Expo like a crazy mad woman and asked him to take a picture with my boys.  Thank you Andy for being so gracious.  Andy’s designs are now being sold at Neiman Marcus.  Congratulations, Andy.

Hate it, Love it, Don’t care, all of the above?

I blogged Lunching With The Ladies a few days ago and mentioned how spoiled I was with Angie.  Angie produced a short film called “Lychee Thieves“  She asked both my husband and myself to be a part of it and it played at this year’s Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF).  This past weekend Lychee Thieves went to Hilo to be shown at the Palace Theatre.  Angie went to Hilo and brought back Mika Mints from Big Island Candies and Strawberry Mochi from Two Ladies Kitchen.  We loooove those treats!  Angie and I had a great opportunity to work on a few movies in Hilo.  First, we did Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and then we did The Tempest.  We love Hilo and yes, we claim it’s our hood:)  Thanks Ang for running around Hilo to bring our FAVES back so our family could devour it in mere seconds..lol

These bad boys are so ono.

I got so excited about Mika Mints I could only think of throwing them in the air.  Throwing things in the air = happy, happy, joy, joy!

He’s all about the Strawberry Mochi and I don’t blame him one bit.

When you have mochi on your mind you don’t care if your diaper is hanging low or your shorts are just about to come off.

The reason why the camera is always good to have around.  I think I’ll keep this one for his future girlfriend..tee-hee!
